Tour -- Quad Graphics Inc.
Location: Hartford, Wisconsin Number of Tours: 1 Date: Tuesday, April 1, 2008 Departure time from convention center: 11:45 AM Approximate arrival time back to convention center: 3:45 PM TOUR IS FULL About The Plant Headquartered in Sussex, Wis., Quad/Graphics is the world's largest privately held printer of magazines, catalogs and other commercial products, and the third-largest printer -- public or private -- in the Western Hemisphere. Quad/Graphics is the quintessential American business success story. By doing things differently and better over the past 35-plus years, they've grown from humble beginnings in rural Pewaukee, Wis., into the largest privately held printer in the world today with 12,000 employees and $2 billion in annual sales. The 1.6 million square foot Hartford, Wisc. plant is home to 1,070 employees. In 2006, the plant earned Quad/Graphics' recognition as Newsweek's Printer of the Year for a 22nd consecutive year. Newsweek determines its Printer of the Year based on points its printers accumulate in three major categories: operation (press speeds, bindery output and total turnaround time); paper waste; and quality of product and customer service. Other customers include McGraw Hill (Business Week), Time Inc. (Sunset Magazine, Sports Illustrated, People Specials), Dell Computer Corporation, National Geographic-Traveler, and Williams-Sonoma. Continuous Improvement in Action Participants will have a tour of the entire production facility starting with their Imaging Dept and ending with a Q&A session. Continuous improvement will be observed by walking the floor and reviewing the visual factory. Managing Daily Improvement is evident in the facilities through the Hour by Hour charts and well as our Lean dashboards. The process of issue resolution and countermeasure definition will be both seen and discussed as the tour guides take the group inside their War rooms. Point Kaizen improvement examples, implementation of JI (TWI) and how they integrate TWI and Lean will also be seen and discussed. Please Note:
